Prendete e Mangiate (Take it and Eat) is a collective exhibition-event dedicated to the table, intended not just as a place of exchange and sharing, but also as a place where senses and identities are constructed, a place of negotiation between ourselves and others. It is precisely around the table, when sharing meals, that conviviality and lightheartedness allow us to lower our defenses and enter into sincere relationships with others. The exhibition brings together 30 international artists, artisans, and designers, all called upon to share their stories through their objects, metaphorically taking a seat at the table.
The idea of “nurturing” dialogue or “nourishing” a feeling is embedded in language. How deeply is the basic concept of "eating" rooted in the very structure of how we describe and perceive reality?
Words are how we humans impose order on the world. The bynomy -food and words- is here represented as an analogy. A golden bread at the beginning of the table (an original artwork by Casa Remedios) corresponds to a real bread, that visitors could literally "take and eat", freshly baked every morning and presented at the opposite end of the room. The exhibition fliers are inscribed with poems, for visitors to "take and eat" with their hearts and minds.
“Take it and Eat” is an invitation with evangelical echoes, which questions us on an issue as fundamental as it is open: does man live by bread alone? Nourishing the body becomes a metaphor for nourishing the mind and soul. The exhibition is therefore an invitation to share cultural and spiritual food, “taking and eating” from food juxtaposed with design objects.
Throughout the week, the exhibition is also accompanied by performances and talks that connect design with the performing arts, poetry, and cuisine in a shared, ongoing symposium.
In a period of global unrest and upheaval, we wanted to restore the sense of connection between human beings by linking ideas, sharing stories, and nurturing ideals. We do this through two fundamental activities of all living beings: eating and communicating.
